Botulinum toxin injection: Botox / Dysport
There are 2 major brands, Botox from Allergan pharmaceuticals, and Dysport from Ipsen. Botulinum toxin is a protein, when injected into the correct muscles, will relax the muscles. This will in turn lead to disappearance of wrinkles, contouring of the jaw and calves; it can also correct excessive sweating and body odour.
The effect will typically last from 4 months to a year, and is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments performed worldwide. If injected correctly, the adverse effects are negiligible.
Hyaluronic acid injection: Restylane/ Juvederm
There are 2 major players, Restylane by Q-Med, and Juvederm by Allergan. Hyaluronic acid is a compound found naturally inside our body, such as our eyes, joints and skin. Hyaluronic acid looks like a viscous jelly, and is good for locking up moisture and as a lubricant.
Hyaluronic acid can be injected underneath the skin to soothe wrinkles and skin folds. It can also be used to sculpt the nose, the chin, and to give the lips a fuller appearance.
When injected into the nasolabial, nasojugal and mesolabial folds, it will correct an aging look and make you look young again. Sometimes hyaluronic acid is injected in small aliquots underneath the skin, it will help to retain moisture and give the skin a supple look.
After injection, our body will gradually reabsorb the hyaluronic acid. The effect of the injection may last up to 18 months.
PLLA Sculptra
Sculptra is a relatively newer kind of injection. When injected, it will stimulate the skin to produce new collagen fibres, and increase the overall depth of the skin.
When we start to age, there is loss of volume and fullness in the face; Sculptra helps to full up the sunken area and give us back a more youthful look.
To get the best results, you may need 2-3 Sculptra injection sessions. The result will take about 3 weeks to appear, and may last 2 years.
